PROPOSED COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DRAWING BOARD, ILLUMINATED, PORTABLE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-D-52975.
This description covers illuminated portable drawing boards used by personnel to produce engineering drawings, schematics, or other graphic arts.
Salient characteristics:
Description. The drawing board shall be 48 inches by 32 inches by 3.25 inches, ± 0.031 inch. The frame shall be made of clear hardwood. The board shall have a 22 gauge steel reflector under entire bottom shaped to distribute the light evenly under glass. The reflector shall be painted with enamel, class and composition optional. The top of the board shall be recessed to take a 36.75 inch by 24 inch by 0.25 inch, ± 0.031, tempered-glass. The glass shall be sandblasted or acid etched on bottom side to reduce glare and diffuse light. The glass shall be held in place with four corner clips. The front and back top rails shall be removable so that the clamps can be replaced. Adjustable hanger rods to hold the board in place when used on an inclined drawing surface shall be fastened to each end, and be movable to at least 10.5 inches. The board shall be wired for 110-125 volts alternating current with two 30-watt 36-inch fluorescent lamps. The power switch (off – on) shall be at either the top or the side of the board. The board shall have not less than a 10-foot cord with 18-gauge wire with plug, having a ground.
Material. Material shall be as specified herein. Materials not specified shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all provisions of this commercial item description. Drawing boards shall be free from defects and imperfections which might affect their serviceability.
