COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PROTRACTOR, RECTANGULAR
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-P-11720.
This description covers a protractor for use in laying out angles and distances in sketching and in note keeping for surveys.
Salient characteristics: The protractor shall be made of methacrylic, extruded, or cast acrylic plastic and shall be similar to figure 1.
Graduations, numerals, and markings. All graduations, numerals, and other markings shall be molded, impressed, or printed on the underside of the protractor. Lettering and numerals shall be readily legible. Molded or impressed graduations, numerals, and other markings shall be filled with permanent black ink or paint. Graduation lines should be within 0.010 inch (0.25 millimeter {mm}) of their true relative position and should be 0.008-inch (0.20 mm) wide, plus or minus 0.002 inch (0.05 mm).
Laminations. If the markings on the lower surface of the protractor are printed, they shall be protected by a transparent plastic cover sheet of the same material as the protractor. The cover sheet shall be permanently affixed by a laminating process and shall not impair the transparency of the protractor or cover sheets, nor distort the marking or graduations. There shall be no evidence of the cover sheet separating from the protractor.
Edges. All working edges shall be straight.
Regulatory requirements: The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
