COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ALIDADES, SURVEYING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GG-A-440.
This commercial item description covers alidades used for stadia surveying, including measuring distances and directions, and determining elevations.
Salient characteristics:
Design: The alidades shall be optical-reading, self-inducing, with a blade, a circular level, a compass, and a pedestal, when applicable, supporting a telescope. The telescope shall be equipped with cross-and-stadia hairs and a vertical motion clamp or clutch with tangent screw. The alidades shall be provided with a carrying case of the contractor’s standard type, designed and constructed to protect the alidade from damage by handling incident to storage and transportation.
Material: The alidades blade shall be brass or aluminum. The top surface of the blade shall be treated and painted in accordance with the contractor’s standard practice. The underside of the blade shall be hard anodized. A base plate knob shall be located at each end of the blade. Both edges of the blade shall be beveled.
Literature: The alidades shall include the manufacturer’s standard operating instructions and parts list.
Types: Surveying alidades shall be of the following types:
Type I- Optical-reading, self-indexing, high standard.
Type II- Optical-reading, self-indexing, low standard.
