COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
T-SQUARES (METAL, WOOD, AND PLASTIC)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-10629.
This description covers wood and plastic T-squares used in general drafting practice and layout work and allows for ordering of a metal construction where a heavy and rigid T-square is desired.
Salient characteristics:
Design: The T-squares shall consist of a head and a blade.
Type I – fixed head
Sizes – 18-, 24-, 30-, 36-, and 42-inches long (457.2-, 609.6-, 762.0-, 914.4-, and 1066.8- mm long)
Type II – protractor head
Sizes – 24- and 42-inches long (609.6- and 1066.8- mm long).
Material. The T-square head and blade shall be constructed of wood, plastic, or metal as specified herein. If a metal construction is ordered for the T-square head, the metal shall be aluminum or zinc alloy, and the locking device for the type II T-square head shall be corrosion-resistant steel. If a metal construction is ordered for the blade, the blade shall be of corrosion-resistant steel or steel processed to prevent corrosion.
Blades. The ruling edges of the blades shall be parallel to each other, and shall be straight. A 3/8- to 1/2-inch diameter hole (9.525- to 12.7-mm) shall be centered near the free end of the blade to permit hanging the T-square shall be between 1-1/4- and 2-inches wide (31.75 and 50.8 mm), and 0.042 and 0.100 inch thick (1.067 and 2.54 mm).
Heads. The head shall be of either solid or openwork design, and shall be so weighted as to give proper balance when handled. The working edge shall be a smooth surface. The length of the heads for the 18- and 24-inch T-squares (457.2- and 609.66-mm) shall be not less than 10 inches (254.0 mm), and the length for the 30-, 36-, and 42-inch T-squares (762.0-, 914.4-, and 1066.8-mm) shall be not less than 12 inches (304.8 mm).
