Type I. Type I rules shall be constructed with a soft metal core between two strips of flexible spring steel encased in an outer covering of natural or synthetic rubber. The end of the ruler shall be protected with corrosion resisting steel metal ferrules or clips.
Type II. Type II rulers shall consist of a soft metal bar encased in a corrosion-resisting metal coil. A flexible, corrosion-resisting metal ruling edge shall be attached to the coil by corrosion-resisting metal clips.
Type III. Type III rulers shall be constructed from a perforated3 and slotted, rectangular strip of elastomer material which supports a flexible3 plastic ruling edge and maintains set curves by means of a soft metal rod inserted opposite the ruling edge.
Material: Metal- The metal shall be corrosion resistant or coated to be made corrosion resistant.
Part number. The document part number for rulers, drafting, adjustable curve shall be as follows:

Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, marking. Military packaging shall be specified when shipment are to overseas Department of Defense (DoD) consignees. Commercial packaging may be specified for shipments to DoD consignees within the Continental United States and to non-DoD consignees worldwide. When a supplier’s normal packaging will satisfy the requirements for military packaging, it may be used.
Military packaging. Each beam compass with all attachments contained within its case, and the type I bar shall be preserved and packed to protect against physical damage and deterioration in a logistic environment characterized by the following:
1. Multiple handling during transportation and in-transit storage.
2. Shock, vibration, and static loading forces during worldwide shipment by all transport modes.
3. Uncontrolled warehouse storage for extended periods.
4. Weather exposure during shipment and in-transit transfers.
5. Stacking loads during shipment and storage.
Quantities of rulers destined to a single addressee may be unitized into one or more unit loads, except only rulers of like description shall be contained within the same container.
