COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MICROSCOPE, OPTICAL:
MONOCULAR, FIXED-FOCUS, POCKET-TYPE,
BETWEEN 40X AND 60 X MAGNIFICATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to military specification MIL-M-52391.
This description covers a pocket-type microscope with an optical system of between 40X and 60x magnification intended for use in the inspection of scribed lines made on scribed, coated plastic sheets in the color-separation drafting phase of military cartography.
Salient characteristics:
Material:
Microscope. Aluminum, brass, copper, or corrosion-resistant steel. Only one type of metal shall be used in any one microscope.
Base. Clear acrylic plastic.
Glass. Optical quality free from visible defects producing distortion of magnified images viewed through the lens system. The glass shall contain no radioactive material.
Design: The microscope shall consist of a tube, a lens system, a reticle, a light reflector, and a plastic base (see figure 1).
Lens system. The lens system shall resolve approximately 144 lines per millimeter. The objective lens mount shall be threaded to receive a light reflector. Magnifying power shall be not less than 40X nor more than 60X.
Reticle. The reticle shall contain an accurately engraved or etched scale not less than 0.100 inch long and calibrated in O.001-inch divisions.
