COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
LEVEL, SURVEYING, SELF-LEVELING, AND TILTING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description
(CID) for all federal agencies. The original issue of this CID replaced MIL-L-52918.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Abstract. This commercial item description covers levels (instruments) used for taking differential elevation measurements, in surveying and other engineering applications. The complete instrument shall consist of an internal focusing telescope capable of 360 degree rotation, image lens system, cross hairs (horizontal and vertical), leveling system, tripod, and accessories.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The levels shall be classified as follows: Type I - Tilting level
Style A - With plane-parallel optical micrometer attachment
Style B - Without plane-parallel optical micrometer attachment
Type II - Self-leveling level
Style A - With horizontal circle graduations
Style B - Without horizontal circle graduations
Class 1 - 1st order accuracy
Class 2 - 2nd order accuracy
