COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCALE, PLOTTING COORDINATE:
PLASTIC, GRADUATED IN YARDS AND METERS IN
1:25000 AND 1:50000 SCALES
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-S-2412.
This description covers a flat, double-sided plastic, L-shaped coordinate scale, graduated in yards and meters in 1:25000 and 1:50000 scales with one side marked in yards and the opposite side marked in meters. The scale is intended to be used for reading and plotting coordinates on either scale maps, or map substitutes, having either a 1000 meter or 1000 yard grid.
Salient characteristics:
Design: The scale shall be as specified herein and as shown on figures 1 and 2.
Materials: The scale shall be cut from a rigid unsupported polyvinylchloride sheet and sealed between two transparent covers sheets. The finished scale after lamination shall be not less than 0.036-inch (0.91 mm) or more than 0.040-inch (1.02 mm) thick.
Surface and edges. The surface shall be smooth and the edges shall be square and straight to within 0.003 inch (0.08 mm) of the precision flat. The outside edges shall be perpendicular to within 0.014 inch (0.36 mm) and the inside edges shall be perpendicular to within 0.010 inch (0.25 mm). Sharp edges shall be rounded to a radius not to exceed 0.003 inch (0.08 mm) and all corners rounded to the radii shown on figure 2.
