COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PARALLEL RULERS (ROLLING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-P-3631.
This description covers rolling parallel rulers. The roller assembly consists of an axle, two rollers, and two bearing standards near the end of the base. The axle, suspended between the standards, is free to rotate. The attached rollers, one at each end of the axle, turn with the axle and protrude slightly below the base. The rollers are knurled, or grooved to prevent slipping when the ruler is guided over a drafting surface.
Salient characteristics:
Design. The rulers shall be as specified herein. The rulers shall consist of a base with two parallel, beveled drawing edges and a roller assembly to permit parallel movement of the rulers. A carrying case shall be provided.
Classification: Rulers shall be the following sizes:
Size A – 12 inches long
Size B – 18 inches long
Material. The ruler shall be of a corrosion-resistant material, the same for both the axle cover and the base. Material could be CRES or high impact plastic.
Surface and edges. Each beveled drawing edge of the ruler shall be straight to within 0.006 inch. The drawing edges shall be parallel to within 0.01 inch per root.
