COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STRAIGHTEDGES, STEEL, DRAFTSMEN’S
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GG-S-776.
This description covers straightedges used in general drafting practices for scaling and drawing straight lines.
Salient characteristics:
Design: the straightedges shall be straight, parallel, and of uniform thickness. All surfaces shall be true planes. The ends shall be at right angles to the ruling edges. Each straightedge shall have a whole approximately 1-1/4 inch from one end of the straightedge. The straightedge shall be marked with the manufacturer’s identification.
Material: Corrosion-resisting steel, smooth on both sides.
Types: Types of straightedges shall be shown below:

Description |
I – Squared Edge |
Both edges squared for full thickness |
II – One edge beveled |
One edge squared for full thickness. The other edge shall be squared for a uniform thickness and shall be beveled uniformly. |
III Plotting |
Both working edges beveled on one for uniform thickness and shall be beveled uniformly. Both beveled edges shall be graduated at a scale of 1:50,000. One edge shall be graduated in waters and the other edge shall be graduated in yards. |
