Viewing surface. The viewing surface of the table shall be split into two viewing stages of approximately 11 inches by 18 inches each. The viewing surface shall be free of any obstruction except for the slot between the stages for the split vertical and the variable length film tackup threading configurations. The viewing surface shall be capable of supporting a weight of 20 pounds with a base approximately 7 inches in diameter without damage.
Illumination. The light intensity at the viewing surface shall be infinitely adjustable from a maximum of 3,500 foot lamberts down to a minimum of approximately 700 foot lamberts. The color temperature of the light produced shall be approximately 5,000 degrees Kelvin at maximum intensity.
Mask. Each viewing stage shall be provided with masking devices for blocking extraneous light. Convenient manual controls shall be provided at the front of the table for positioning and retracting the light masks.
Film transport system. The table shall be equipped with a manually operable film transport system capable of transporting one or two strands of film simultaneously in both directions across the viewing stages. The transport system shall provide for split-vertical viewing of films. The transport system also shall be equipped with a manually controlled variable length film accumulation capability which will provide for viewing of widely separated targets (up to 75 inches apart) on one strand of film. Reel brackets at each end of the table shall be capable of handling single film spools in widths up to 9.5 inches, or dual film spools with combined widths of up to 10.5 inches, and film lengths up to 1,000 feet. Film rollers shall be mounted at each end of the viewing surface to support the film slightly above the viewing stage surface. The rollers shall be constructed in segments so as to allow transport of a second strand of film at a different speed on in the opposite direction from the first.
Elevating base. The table shall have an elevating base equipped for manual adjustment of the viewing surface to any height between 29 inches and 42.5 inches above the floor where most comfortable for the operator. The base shall be mounted on four rubber-tired casters for ease of movement. The front casters shall include locking mechanisms to prevent movement of the table when in use.
Optics carriage. The table shall be equipped with an optics carriage which provides for precise three-axis movement of a mounted optical device over the viewing surface. Magnetic clutches shall be provided to permit the carriage to be locked into place and to allow manual fine feed control along the X and Y axes. The clutches shall be capable of being decoupled to allow rapid manual operation of the carriage by the operator. The carriage shall maintain parallelism of the optics to the viewing surface throughout the full range of movement along the X and Y axes of each
