Tests. Samples for the straightness test shall be equal to the number taken for the inspection. Samples for the temperature test shall be not less than three samples.
Temperature Test. (Class B, methacrylate only). The T-squares shall be placed in a heating chamber and subjected to a temperature of plus 70 + 2 degrees C. for a period of 4 hours. They shall then be removed and allowed to return to room temperature and examined. If the adhesive between the blade and the transparent edge is affected in any way, the entire lot of T-squares shall be rejected.
Straightness test. Securely fasten a good grade of drawing paper on a drawing board. Drive two identical pins vertically into the drawing board, about 6 mm deep and spaced approximately 12 mm less than the length of the blade. Place the ruling edge against the pins and draw a line along the ruling edge with a sharp pencil. Rotate the T-square 180 degrees, place the same ruling edge against the other side of the pins and draw another line along the ruling edge. Measure the distance between the two lines at increments not exceeding 0.25 mm multiplied by the length (in mm) of the T-square.
Regulatory requirements. In accordance with section 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the Government’s policy is to acquire items composed of the highest percentage of recovered materials practicable, consistent with maintaining a satisfactory level of competition without adversely affecting performance requirements or exposing supplier’s employees to undue hazards from the recovered materials.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Packaging and marking (DOD). Export packaging, shall be specified when shipments are to overseas Department of Defense (DOD) consignees. Commercial packaging may be specified for shipments to DOD consignees within the Continental United States. When a supplier’s normal packaging will satisfy the requirements for military packaging, it may be used.
Military packing. Each T-square shall be preserved and packed to protect against physical damage and deterioration in a logistic environment characterized by the following:
1. Multiple handling during transportation and in-transit storage.
2. Shock, vibration, and static loading forces during worldwide shipment by all transport modes.
3. Uncontrolled warehouse storage for extended periods.
4. Weather exposure during shipment and in-transit transfers.
5. Stacking loads during shipment and storage.
